I have 29,000 miles on it and drive 55 miles a day on the freeway. The dealer has replaced the battery twice. I have a 08 X5 4.8 with a Intermittent Charging System, It all first started with the vehicle going into limp mode with all the lights AWD,DSC,ABS Airbag etc., I could shut it off and restart and lights went away, until one time it wouldn't restart battery too low, So I checked charging voltage 13.6. bmw has been using drive by wire system since 1999, your previous engine also had a drive by wire system similar to the one on the new x5, just with a different engine management system. if you want to test drive a 2005 or 2006 x5 4.8is, the throttle is like an on off switch. this is due to the quick responce of the valvetronic motors in the engine. in the future, a software solution may be I own a BMW X5 2008 4.8 Filly Loaded I fell in love with my car when i saw it at the dealer bought my car for 33k with 32k miles 1 owner in 2013. In December of 2014 the car started making a funny noise from the engine area when the car started as time went along the noise became more prominent. We decided to take our car to the dealer which we Key fob battery is new. (car battery is less than two years old and registered). Buttons on the key fob unlock, lock, release the trunk as it should.
